Winter Foot Care and Maintenance

Winter Foot Care and Maintenance

Winter is a difficult season for your feet. But it doesn’t have to be a burden. With dry conditions come an array of problems. That’s why it’s important to know winter foot care and maintenance.

Winter Foot Care and Maintenance

The winter months are difficult on our skin, particularly our feet. When your feet become dry, it can crack and develop infections. But with the right winter foot care and maintenance, you won’t experience problems.

● Remove any dead skin. Your feet are tough appendages but they do succumb to dry, dead skin. Use an appropriate pad to take off dead skin.
● Massage your feet every week. By rubbing your feet for few minutes, you’ll stimulate blood circulation, which prevents dead skin and reinvigorates your feet.
● Apply moisturizer. When you bathe or shower, it’s a good idea to finish your drying routine with foot moisturizer. But, don’t overdo it and do not moisturize between toes.
● Take care of toenails. Your toenails serve a specific purpose but can do damage to your skin. Trim nails occasionally after a bath or shower, when they are soft.
● Wear socks. When you wear shoes, be sure to wear socks also. These provide a little added protection for your feet.

Additionally, always wear appropriately sized shoes. Do not wear shoes with narrow or small toe boxes because these put undue pressure on your feet and reduce circulation. That will cause long-term problems with continued, regular wear. See a podiatrist immediately if you experience unusual or recurring problems with your feet.
