Common Foot Skin Problems

Common Foot Skin Problems

Your feet are workhorses. They propel you about your day from one location to the next. And, to do all that, your feet take a real beating. But sometimes, it’s not just natural wear and tear. In some instances, your feet can experience unusual problems, such as bad skin conditions. When your feet are plagued with skin problems, it’s a big deal because it makes a real impact on your day to day life.

Common Foot Skin Problems

There are a number of foot skin problems, which are caused by fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Some conditions are easily treatable, while others are quite difficult to fix. Here are some of the most common foot skin problems people experience:

  • ● Athlete’s foot. This common foot skin problem is caused by fungus infection. Known in the medical community as Tinea Pedis, athlete’s foot produces an itchy, red rash, most often affecting the soles and between the toes.
  • ● Warts. Another common foot skin problem is verruca plantaris, or warts. These can appear singularly or in a clump on the soles or the sides of the feet. Warts are caused by a virus, which makes this problem more difficult to cure.
  • ● Onychomycosis. Infections in the toenails or onychomycosis are, like athlete’s foot, caused by fungal infection. This condition causes the toenails to discolor, thicken, and even change the nail texture.
  • ● Blisters. Although blisters are generally attributed to excessive friction, they can be caused by other conditions. Poison ivy, allergic reactions, diabetes, and more can cause blisters.

Additionally, corns and calluses are quite common, which are caused by excessive pressure against the skin.
